I haven't written a genuine blog post, in what feels like years. And for some reason, I've been feeling like I've needed something to grow, something to build and something to love. And then I thought, "The Cassie Paige" Blog could be that for me. I could grow my blog but also grow with it. I could build something new on here for myself. And I used to love blogging, so why not spark that interest again?

So here I am, starting 2022 strong and trying to spark some love in an old interest. I hope you follow along on this journey with me!

Essentials for Blogging in 2022

So, starting off my first blog post, some essentials I need to restart this blogging journey!

A new laptop. I actually invest in the Razer Book 13 last year and I love it! I used to have a MacBook and I thought I would hate having to go back to a PC but I honestly love it! I can't even imagine ever going back to a MacBook. And why? With my MacBook, I noticed it slowing down more and more the older it got. I've had my Razer Book 13 for over a year, and no issues! I would recommend it if you're looking for a smaller sized laptop!

A laptop desk. I am using my Laptop Desk as I type this out and it's been a life-changer for it. I didn't think I would use it that often but after Iz got me one, I don't think I could use my laptop long term without it (at least at home, I haven't had to use my laptop for a while outside of the house, so I don't know how comfortable I would feel without it now).

A wireless mouse. I had a wired mouse for a while and when Iz gave me his wireless one, I found a newfound love for Wireless Mice. Iz has been a big fan of Razer for a while now so guess what type of Wireless Mouse I have? You named it, the Razer Atheris Ambidextrous Wireless Mouse and it's such a smooth and small mouse. It makes a great mouse if you plan on taking it on the go!

A phone with a great camera. When I switched to a PC, I also switched to an Android. And I hated it at first. I hated transferring all my data over, I hated learning a new phone and I hated it wasn't an iPhone. But there was so much more to love about my Samsung Note 20 Ultra, like how beautiful and bold it is, the big screen, the amazing camera and how much more versatile it is compared to an iPhone! I don't think I could ever be an Apple person again!

A camera. I'm not super knowledgeable in cameras and what to look for but Iz and I updated our camera a year to a year and a half ago and it's been so far so much better than our old Sony camera. We upgrade to the Sony a6000 and also got a new lens (but for the life of me, don't know the model of it) and it's been good so far! We have had a few issues with it but I don't know if it was due to user error or the actual camera! But if you're in the market for a camera and you like Sony, I would say try the Sony a6000!

Last minute shopper like me?! Don't know what to get your little ones?! Well, why not head over to Coco Village and check out all their amazing toys, furniture and such much more!

Our little ones were lucky to get a kitchen set from Coco Village (and let me tell you, it's honestly one of the cutest kitchen sets I've ever seen! I mean look at tht terra cotta color!) and they absolutely love it! They've been into helping mom "cook" in the kitchen but once they had their hands on their own, they've been obsessed! It honestly took 5x longer just to get it together because they were so excited to use their kitchen and cook their own food!

I can't even stress enough how much of a hit the kitchen set was at our home!

I haven't been on here for a while and the truth is, I haven't had a lot to say! Life has been been good, fun but VERY busy. And then I thought, why not write a blog post about life now, with two kids under the age 2. And let me tell you, some days are not easy. Like this evening, I wanted to rip my hair out. I was stressed, overwhelmed and angry and then I look at my babies and all of a sudden I'm happy and they are the littlest angels in my life. So how is life with two littles? Well ....

Typical Days?

In this household, we don't exactly have typical days. Iz is a shiftworker, meaning he's gone 12 hours when he's on shift and he works some days during the morning and some at night. And on those days, it feels like I'm parenting solo. When Iz switches to night, getting the kids ready for bed is usually a train wreck. But how do I even begin to tell you how are days are? Well, I really can't. Some days run smoothly, we wake up do our morning routine, fit in both kids naps at the right times, get lunch, play until Iz gets home (if he's at work), dinner, sleep time routine and then bed.

Then other days are chaotic. The kids wake up screaming or so far apart from each other, they're crying because they don't want to nap, DK doesn't like his meals or he wants to eat on the couch. Vida is going through a growth spurt or teething. Sleep time routine is off because I'm either doing it solo, Iz is home late from work or someone is just refusing to do all the sleep time routines.

How Life Really Is

It's beyond amazing. It's beyond exhausting. It's a learning experience everyday. I have so much love in my heart that sometimes it feels like it's going to explode. My body aches so badly some days, I feel like I've been hit by a car. Sometimes I feel so physically, emotionally and mentally drained. And other days, I feel all the love, care and joy in the world.

So to answer the blog post title, Life with Two Littles Under 2 is something I'm beyond grateful to experience. I love that I'm DK's mom. I love that I'm V's mom. I'm love that I'm doing this along side Iz. Some days are really, really hard. But even through the tough times, I would do it over and over again. My heart is so full and I couldn't imagine my life without DK or V.

Before Vida came, we were deciding what kind of camera we should get for Vida. We currently have the Nanit for DK but had some concerns about the camera. I was lucky enough to partner with Miku and we now have the Miku set up and ready for Vida!

Pros

No subscription fees. Unlike other smart baby monitors, the Miku does not charge you for any insights or analytics! Which is amazing because having a baby is not cheap! So to have these insights without a cost is amazing!

No wearables or extra items needed to track breathing. Some monitors require additional equipment or wearables to track breathing but the Miku uses radio waves to track a baby's breathing. Vida would struggle with this and she's really hard to swaddle and we can only use a certain type of swaddle for her!

Installation was easy and came with everything you needed to install it. The package came with literally everything you needed to install the camera. It had a screwdriver, self-drilling wallmount anchors, covers to hide the camera wire and leave a clean look, a level to make sure the camera was installed straight and all the small hardware!

It has a wide variety of sounds and songs to play to put the baby to sleep. I love that there is a wide selection of songs and souns to play to help keep baby asleep at night! Our Nanit is very limited, there is only about 5 sounds to play on the Nanit.

It was a modern and great looking camera. The camera is a beauty! I love that it's so modern looking and fits right in with our home!

The app runs in the background so you can always hear your baby. I sometimes forget to turn on my Nanit app or when my phone is on Power Saving Mode, it turns off and I'm not able to watch DK. With the Miku, it runs in the backgroud, so I can hear Vida regardless if the app is open on my phone or not. I haven't noticed an issue in regards to battery on my iPhone for for Iz' Samsung, we definitely noticed a difference.

Cons

You can't zoom in and out. I love that with our Nanit, we can zoom in and out of DK's face to make sure he is actually asleep. I'm sure Miku will be able to add this feature to their software!

It drained the battery on Iz' phone. When the app was downloaded on Iz' phone, his battery was only lasting him a few hours. When we checked what was draining his battery, the Miku used 200% of his battery life! I fortunately have an iPhone and didn't have that issue what so ever.

When the camera loses connection, I have to unplug it to get the video to work. It's probably the biggest issue I have with the camera. Our internet has been cutting out lately - our internet provider issue - the Miku has a hard time reloading the video. The only way I've been able to get it to reconnect is unplug the camera and plug it back it. But since then, it's been working 100%.

Overall, the Miku is a great camera! The pros of the camera greatly outweigh the cons, especially when the camera is connected and we don't have any internet issues! It's an amazing product and has been working amazingly for us! If you would like a comparsion blog on the Nanit vs the Miku, let me know and I would be willing to give you my opinion and comparsion on both!

September 4, 2020

It was two days after my first sweep from my doctors appointment - another day that my life was changed.

I read online that it was actually rare for you water to pop before your contractions started, which was true with DK. With DK, my contractions were so intense right away, that I knew I was in labour and this was something I didn't want to happen this time around. Why? Because with DK, my contractions came so fast, I wasn't able to get an epidural right away and had to go through half of my labour without one, then sit through contactions while getting my epidural done after pushing for almost 2 hours! I was desparately hoping that my water would break so I could get to the hospital early enough to get an epidural because let me tell you, pushing out a baby FUCKEN HURTS!

And by golly, luck was on my side, because while I was sitting in bed, trying to get in a nap, my water broke. And it's such a weird feeling. I felt like I was going to pee my pants but I couldn't hold it in for the life of me. Luckily, I made it to the toilet on time but I was definitely debating on if I peed myself or my water broke. I Googled online just to make sure and I called my doctors office and I was directed to go to the hospital. I called Iz into the house (because he was in the middle of working on his car), called my sister-in-law to help watch DK (which was 100% heartbreaking for me because I've never been away from him for more than 8-9 hours) and we went to the hospital!

The hospital was packed and the assessment took forever! When we initially got there, I was given a room in the assessment area right away - they did all the necessary checks before hand and then I was told I needed to wait to see a doctor to confirm that my actually broke. During this time, the nurse was timing my contractions and honestly, I was barely having any. I'm pretty sure they were trying to see if I could wait until tomorrow to go in to labour since it was so busy but it really all depened on how dilated I was! When the doctor came in, they checked my cervix and were surprised I was already 6 cm dialted! They told me I was most likely gonna have a baby and that I would need something to induce me since I wasn't have any contractions, but I just needed to wait to confirm my water had broke.

From the moment the doctor left, my contractions started and they came on full force. My delivery doctor came in and introduced herself and asked if I was going to have an epidural and without hesitation, I said yes! She said she would get someone to check on me and see what they could do. 10-15 minutes passed and my contractions were about 5-6 minutes apart, I was waiting for the test results for my water, I was waiting for a nurse to come in to check on me, and I was just praying I would be able to get an epidural. I remember looking over at Iz and saying "not again, I'm not going to get an epidural again" and he became instantly worried. After about 15 minutes, an intern doctor came to check on me since I was already slightly screaming in pain from my contractions and I told her I wanted an epidural and I needed my IV ASAP (which is needed before an epidural can get done). Iz kept telling her we needed it done right away because I 100% wanted and needed it. The intern doctor told a nurse, which of course with my luck, the nurse didn't rush because I wasn't having any contractions when she checked on me 15-25 minutes earlier. The intern doctor made her aware I was in a lot of pain so the nurse finally came in to check on me and it was at this point I knew it was too late. I wasn't going to be able to get an epidural AGAIN. The nurse realized I was in labour and I told her I needed an epidural ASAP, so she rushed to try to get an IV started for me and then everything else was a blur. I had a doctor come in to check my cervix and at this point I was 8 cm dialted and told I needed to get into a labour room immediately. The nurse was desparating trying to find a vein for my IV and just couldn't get the needle in - she tried twice and no luck. All I remember hearing at this point now is that I might have to start pushing in this little assessment room with 10-20 other pregnant ladies around me .... luckily a labour room opened up and I was quickly whisked away and screaming in so much pain.

Labour

Now this part is the worst part for me. I 100% did not want to do this without an epidural. Iz fought so hard to try to get me one but the nurse told him it was too late but she could get me have oral pain medication instead. Well, as luck would have it, the nurse forgot and NEVER came back with it. So I had to do this without any pain medication.

I hated it. I told the doctor I didn't want to do it. I knew it took forever for DK to come out and I couldn't bare the thought of having to do it again and knowing this time around I wasn't able to get any pain relief. I was lucky enough to have a doctor that just kept encouraging me and two nurses who were so supportive. They just kept telling me to push when I wanted to give up. I kept asking how much more and they with each contraction she was just closer and closer! When they finally said she was almost out, I told myself "fuck it, I'm not going to fuck around, I hate this pain, I want this done" and just like that she was out. The whole labour from when I started pushing took me about 20 minutes. I was honestly so proud of myself. I remember just looking over at Iz and saying "I did it! I did it without an epidural!" And as soon as they gave me Vida, placed her on my chest, I got to meet another love my life.

And if you're wondering how Iz took this labour, he was not any better! The nurses had to ask him if he was okay. I don't blame him, it's messy and not pretty! It's funny though because the nurses mentioned Iz looking a little grey, which was the same comment he got when DK was born!

Pregnancy #2

Okay, so I haven't written a blog post in forever, and if you didn't already know, we have Baby #2 due September 2020! We are more than excited to welcome a little girl this time around and we couldn't be happier! DK is going to make a great big brother! But I won't lie, this pregnancy has been completely different than with DK, so let's get down to what has been different!

One to Five

Morning sickness was WAY worse. They say having a girl will bring a worse bout of morning sickness, and whoever figured that out was HELLA right. I thought some days I was going die from it. The good thing? It didn't last as long as it did with DK!

I don't crave the same things. with DK, I always wanted something sweet, this time, all I want to eat is sushi (and no, I'm not eating it every day, I know I'm not suppose too ......) and rice! I was also really specific like I needed Apple Juice or Chocolate Milk. This time, I just eat whatever I want to eat.

My body has grown differently. My first pregnancy, I lost a few pounds at first and gained it all slowly and, BAM, right at the end of my pregnancy, I was puffed up like a cream puff! This time, I lost a TON of weight and I'm mostly gaining the weight in my belly and boobs. Like my boobs having grown way bigger this time around that I'm in need of new bras ...

My Belly is HUGE. I didn't start showing with DK until maybe 22-25 weeks? This time, you could tell I was pregnant from like week ...12. And at 19 weeks, I'm pretty big.

I have WAY less energy. But that's probably because I know have a baby with a baby growing inside of me. So I can see why I'm always so tired.

Six to Ten

I'm at "by the book" as I was with my pregnancy with DK. I was paranoid with my first pregnancy. I made sure to sleep on the right side, try to eat way better, have way less coffee. This time, I still follow most rules but I cheat every so often. If I need coffee, I don't feel as guilty drinking it. If I'm uncomfortable sleeping on the left side, I'll just turn over. It's too stressful to worry about the little things.

I felt her kicks really early. Feeling your baby kick for the first time is magical. And with DK, they didn't come until maybe 20 weeks? And they were super light, with Baby Girl, I noticed them at 13 weeks. I love it, it's like we're bonding with each other!

I not as public and "share-y" with this pregnancy as I was with DK. A lot of that has to do with tiredness. But also, I'm busy spending my time with DK. I feel bad at times because with DK, updates were constant and "on time". But in this time, I mean with this pandemic, it's also kinda reasonably.

It feels less stressful. And that's because of experience. With DK, Iz and I bought baby books, read up on everything and just tried to make sure we were doing everything "right". This time, right for someone, could be wrong for us and we just had to learn that with experience.

Giving birth is constantly on the back of my mind. I didn't have the easiest of labours with DK. It was downright hard and scary, and I'm constantly thinking of all the pain I went through and it scares me! I don't ever want to go through that pain again. I wouldn't change it for the world because I got to hold DK right after, but the pain of it all still pretty much haunts me ...

Honestly, when I was done being pregnant with DK, I told myself I couldn't do it again. It was too difficult, but here we are. And truthfully, I'm beyond excited to meet our little girl! She's what we needed for our little family!

30 Days

So I'm a little behind on my 30 Day review on our Juno mattress! But I have to say, I'm loving this mattress!

The first few days were a little rough due to our king size pillows being WAY to big for me to sleep on! I'm a stomach sleeper, so our new pillows made it difficult to have a comfy sleep! But as soon as my pillows de-fluffed, I've been sleeping like a king!

I'm a light sleeper, so before we had this mattress, anytime DK would toss and turn, I would just instantly wake up. If Iz got up to go to work, I would wake up and have a hard time going back to bed. If Berks would pace back and forth in the middle of the night because he couldn't find a comfortable spot to sleep, I would have to get up to help him get to bed. And now?! I can sleep through most of it!

With DK's tossing and turning, it usually takes me a little longer to hear him tossing and turning, and I usually only ever fully wake up if he gets up crying because he's hungry! When Iz gets up to go to work, I only ever briefly wake up when his alarm goes off, and then I'm right back to sleep! And with Berks pacing back and forth, I barely notice his nails pattering on the floor and if he really needs me, he'll just come up to my side of the bed to wake me up!

Mia doesn't get a "spotlight" because she will sleep until she thinks I'm ready to get up and start the day, and if she wakes up before that, all I need to do is tell to her to go to her bed and she's right back asleep!

Overall Thoughts

As a light sleeper, being able to sleep through most of the things that used to wake me up, has been a life-changer. I feel well-rested on most days than not! And that's saying a lot with DK being here! Before DK, I would always, and I mean ALWAYS, needs a nap, and my naps aren't 30 minute quick naps! They are long-ass naps that are 2-3 hours long! And now, most days, even when DK is a little more of a handful, I can get through the day without a nap, and even stay up a little late to get blogging work done (or binge-watch a show)!

I have to say, our Juno mattress has been a sleep saver for me!

Adelia

Here in this post, we have Teddy Blake's Adelia bag! It's honestly one of the perfect bags! I love how structured the bag is and the size is perfect for every day! Not too small or too big - there's enough room for my phone, wallet, keys, puffer, a few lipsticks and with room to spare! I also love that to bag has a longer strap, so if I don't feel like carrying it around, I can just swing it over my shoulder and wear it without a care. The bag is so versatile that it can be dressed up or down!

And can we talk about the print of the purse? The Adelia bag does come in smooth leather colours, as well as three different sizes, so really, if you feel the smallest size is too small, you can go ahead and get the medium! And if you're looking for an even bigger bag, they have a large size! This still is so amazing with so many different options!

Eliza

I love bucket bags. I find them so cute and they are big enough to fit so many things! The Teddy Blake Eliza bag is just that and more! I've had some bucket bags that have had pull strings that were too stiff or too short to use comfortably, but the Eliza bag has a pull string soft enough to maneuver but firm enough that it won't always open! And the length - though it may seem really long - makes it so handy to open and close the bag! I love the little shoulder pad on the strap and I think it makes a cute little touch to the strap! The gold imprint of Teddy Blake goes so perfectly with the green suede material!

And can I say, I love the little pouch that comes with the purse! Perfect for storing my lipstick and little knick-knacks!

First Night

I'm not even gonna sugar coat it. I slept like an angel in our new Juno mattress! I think part of it had to do with size and the fact that I NEVER had any room to move when DK wanted to come in the bed. But I know I had a good sleep when I don't even flinch at the fact Iz got out of bed to go to work in the morning! It was one of the biggest issues I had with my sleep! Iz works shift work, so he comes home and goes to work at all sorts of crazy hours and most of the time when Iz got into or out of the bed, I would wake up and have such a hard time falling back asleep! The two mornings that Iz did happen to go work, I didn't even notice and slept right until DK needed to get up for breakfast!

Another reason why I slept so much better? No backaches! The last few weeks with our old mattress, I would get up with such terrible backaches, it would make it so hard to even get out of bed! But now, I wake up more lively, even when I'm still tired and DK is crying to food!

And I LOVE the firmness of this mattress! The previous mattress we had was so soft, that it would hurt my knees when I would move around in the bed and work around it in the mornings with DK. The Juno mattress has the perfect firmness - at least for me!

I'm just used to our bed sitting a little higher up than it is now, but that could also be because we got a new bed frame. But, honestly, I don't have any other dislikes to our Juno mattress as of yet!

I thought "there's no way a king-sized mattress could fit in that box, there is no fricken way!" but Juno surprised me and made a king-sized mattress fit in this box!

When we took the mattress out of the box and placed it on the bed to expand, it was such an experience to watch the mattress expand in front of my own two eyes! I mean, we've had a boxed mattress previous but I couldn't remember the unboxing of the mattress and I don't remember hearing the vacuum bag breaking and the sound it made or watching it expand the way it did. I was just in awe of the whole thing!

Having a mattress in a box is just so weird to think about, I mean, back in the day, we had to have a vehicle big enough to haul the full-sized thing around! And now, a king-sized mattress can fit inside a box and be delivered to my house without any hassle!

Initial Thoughts

We have previously had a different boxed mattress and the thickness compared from the two was definitely apparent, so I was little concerned as our previous mattress was slightly thicker in size! But as soon as we put on the covers and set up the bed, I laid in the bed for a solid 5 minutes. And my thoughts? This bed is pretty amazing! I loved how firm the bed was compared to our old mattress! And I definitely loved that we upgraded our bed size to a king - the extra room makes it easier for the nights when DK can't fall back asleep in his own bassinet!

Another thing we tested out, was how the bed moved when either Iz or I got out of the bed while the other was still in bed - the reason? Iz works shift work, so when he has to wake up super early in the morning, it was so hard for me not to wake up when he got out of bed. And vice versa now, with me waking up at all sorts of hours with DK! And the verdict? I could barely feel Iz get out of the bed! I can't wait to fully test this out when Iz gets up for work!

I can't wait for the whole experience and how our Juno mattress will work for our family!

Meaning, we weren't really thinking of getting a bigger vehicle for our family. And I loved my previous Infiniti G35S, so it was an easy buy for me! And I loved that car - it was a newer vehicle (2014) and the interior was so amazing and luxurious! It was also maxed out with its bells and whistles - lane detection, safety sensors, back up camera - all the works that I wanted since my previous car accident. All these perks made driving a lot easier and I always felt a lot safer!

Lexus Family

Well the time came, and after driving DK around in a sedan for a month, it was decided we needed a new vehicle for our family. The Infiniti was just too small and there wasn't enough room for the stroller, his bassinet, the car seat and anything else we needed to store in the car!

We had two choices for a new vehicle - the Lexus RX350 or Infiniti QX50. And as much as I loved the interior of the new QX50, it was slightly out of price range and I hated the fact it had a CVT transmission. I. HATE. CVT. TRANSMISSIONS. So the as soon as I found out the QX50 had a CVT, it was out of the question. And then outta nowhere, we find an amazing deal on an RX350. And from there, the rest if history.

Stroller Shopping

I highly recommend testing out strollers when you go and purchase one or if you're going to put it on your registry! Iz and I walked around BuyBuyBaby with the UppaBaby Vista and realized how easy it was to maneuver in the store and how light it was. We also got to test out removing the stroller parts and using different parts, such as using the car seat on the stroller or the bassinet that comes with the stroller!

The amazing thing about this stroller as well is that you can actually change it so that it can hold 2 little ones! You would just have to buy the extenders and get another seat for the stroller for your 2nd little one!

There are so many different extenders and pieces you can get for this stroller, but make sure you do your research and make sure that this stroller is the one for you, especially because of the price tag on this guy! Definitely on the more expensive side but we got lucky that my parents got DK this stroller as a gift!

Don't shelter your baby. I am the shelter-er when it comes to Iz and I. But because Iz isn't like that with DK, I found him growing and learning a lot quicker than I expected. He's close to being able to hold up his own head and he's learning the movements of crawling!

There are some REALLY tough days. DK has some really bad days - where he just cries ALL DAY FOR NO REASON. And I mean, no reason at all! It makes days REALLY hard but we all have our bad days, so I take them as it is and hope tomorrow will be better.

May 8, 2019

May 8, 2019, was a life changing day – and if you didn’t know from the title of this post, it was the day Iz and I got to meet Dominic. And let me tell you, it was not an easy process.

The day started off with a follow-up appointment at my doctor’s. I had a sweep (a relatively gentle way of trying to start labour. It is a simple procedure that sometimes initiates labour, reducing the risk of babies being born over the due date) that day and my doctor told me she had high hopes I would go into labour within the next few days as I was already 3 cm dilated. After the appointment, I had slight cramps, which is a usual symptom after a sweep, so I decided to relax before Iz and I went for lunch. While Iz was getting ready after coming back from the gym, I ran upstairs and told him I didn’t feel so good and that I needed a shower. This is when panic kicked in and I was unsure if I was going into labour.

I kept denying it over and over in my head, and once I got out of the shower, I just laid in bed, hoping these "pains" would go away. After a few minutes, Iz came running upstairs and asked if I was having contractions. I told him I wasn’t sure but deep down we both knew I was, so Iz started timing them and just like that, they were about 5 minutes apart. Iz started gathering everything we needed for the hospital, but I told him I wasn’t ready, and I needed another shower. So, I jumped in the shower again hoping I didn’t have to go to the hospital. Once I realized that my contractions weren’t going away, I got out of the shower and told Iz I wasn’t ready, but he kept telling me we needed to go to the hospital. Iz ran into my closet, grabbed me a comfy dress and told me to get ready. He grabbed my hospital bag, Dominic’s bag, put the dogs in their room, and rushed me out the door.

Everything from this point on was just a whirlwind. Iz called his sister to help us out and when we got in the car, I just started to panic. The contractions were coming in at about 4 minutes apart and I could barely get through a contraction. We picked up Kayla, got to the hospital and went straight to the labour and delivery floor. When we got to the desk, the nurse told us we had to wait, but I was just in so much pain. I’m 99% sure they thought I was faking my pain because they literally had me waiting for about 10 minutes before they checked us in. Once they were ready for me, they asked all the necessary questions – when did my contractions start, how far apart, what level of pain was I in – and during one of my contractions, the nurse felt my stomach and was surprised at how strong my contraction was – all that was going through my head was "I told you I was in so much pain you fucken asshole."

When they finally got me into a bed to exam me, they were taking their sweet time, as they again thought I was probably lying about my pain. They asked me all the same questions as they did at the front desk, strapped me to a machine to measure my contractions and had me wait 20 minutes to see my contractions. After 20 minutes, the nurse came back, and she kept trying to talk to me and I just couldn’t even hold a conversation during each contraction, which at this point was about 3 minutes apart. They then brought in an intern doctor to measure how dilated I was, and when they checked I was already 7 cm dilated. Everyone started to panic and told me that I was going to have a baby today. It was at this point they asked if I wanted an epidural, and I told them yes, I wanted one ASAP.

Labour

The transition from the exam room to the labour room was so painful as I had to walk into another room while having contractions and praying I could get my epidural in ASAP. I was told I needed to get an IV in before I could get my epidural and I just remember standing over the edge of the bed while getting my IV put in and just being scared beyond belief to know I had to push out Dominic. I was so excited to meet him but scared of the labour.

While the nurses and intern doctor were getting everything ready, they told me to relax on the bed and let them know when I felt like I had to “poo” because that meant I was going into labour. I already had that feeling but I wasn’t ready, so I kept it to myself and laid in bed scared and praying for an epidural at any minute.

2-3 minutes passed, and I just couldn’t take the pain, I told the nurse I had that “pooing” feeling and she told me if I could wait a few more minutes I could get my epidural. I told her I could try but I was in so much pain. While we were waiting for the anesthesiologist, my contractions got to the point where they were about 1-2 minutes apart. I was in so much pain that I thought I was going to die. The anesthesiologist finally came but it was at the point that I could barely sit still to get the needle in and I was 9 cm dilated. I was devastated. I knew I couldn’t do this without the epidural, but it was either, try to sit still enough for the anesthesiologist to get the needle in or break my water and start pushing. I panicked and decided to break my water and push.

Worst decision of my life. I sat through an hour of labour in pain. I can’t even bring myself to think of my pain again because it was so unbearable. Every time a contraction would come, the nurse would just say "keep pushing like you’re taking a big poop". Like what did she think I was doing, not trying my hardest!? I mean, who wants to endure this pain for an hour?! I was tired, feeling defeated and scared I wasn’t going to be able to do this. I tried 3 different methods of pushing and none of them could get me close enough to get Dominic out. I was ready to give up and pass out when the nurse asked me if I wanted to try for an epidural one more time.

This was even more difficult the second time around, Dominic’s head was partially pushed out and when I went to sit up for the epidural, I felt like I had this huge piece of poop stuck, I couldn’t sit up, my water kept gushing out and my contractions were coming in every minute. The nurse told me I could do this, all I needed to do was sit still for as long as possible. During this whole ordeal, a new anesthesiologist was prepping to give me an epidural, but his prepping was slow and steady, and I could just see it in Iz’ and the nurse’s face that this was going to be a gong show. The anesthesiologist took his sweet time, getting all his tools ready and lined up, slowly prepping the area on my back and constantly telling me to sit still. I mean, this guy obviously doesn’t understand what it’s like to sit through a contraction without an epidural – it’s not fucken easy. It’s the world’s hardest thing to do. But Iz held my hand, stood by my side and told me I needed to do this, or I wouldn’t be able to get Dominic out. All I remember is screaming, "I’m having a contraction, I’m trying to sit still", the nurse standing on one side and Iz on the other trying to hold me still, and finally as my contraction is ending, feeling a slight burning pain in my back while another contraction was starting to kick in. As soon as that needle was done, the anesthesiologist finished up (and messed up by squirting some of the medication in the nurse’s and my face while doing so) and I laid back in the bed waiting for the pain to slowly fade away.

During this downtime, my family got to come in, asked me how it went so far, laughed about my screaming and made me feel like a human after feeling like a disaster the hour before. I felt like a whole new person with the epidural and felt like I could conquer this labour. Two hours passed by, two new nurses later and it was time again.

The second time around was 99% easier, except there were some difficulties in other areas. Dominic’s heart rate started to slow down after each of my contractions, meaning he had to come out ASAP. But with the epidural, I could no longer feel my own contractions, so it was up to the nurse to let me know when to push and that also proved to be difficult as she couldn’t feel them. When it did come to pushing, this time around, I couldn’t feel a thing – it made all the pain gone but I couldn’t feel Dominic coming out at all. This was relieving but scary as I didn’t know how far he was with each push.

Another hour had passed and at this point, we had 10 nurses/doctors in the room. Dominic’s heart rate was starting to make the doctor nervous and he needed to come out before anything could happen to him. That meant we had to use forceps to help pull him out. I didn’t realize the severity of using forceps until it came down to it – it would help but it would also leave Dominic with a huge bump on his head and bruising to his face, but it had to be done. When everything was all said and done, the forceps were set into place by the doctor and I was told to push as hard as I could over and over and over and over.

And after 6 hard pushes, I hear a little cry, the doctor saying to wait 45 seconds, a nurse getting me ready for skin to skin, and that’s when I see him. Dominic was finally here.
Fun fact to this story - I was nicknamed "the seven" at the hospital because I came into the hospital so late - 7 cm dilated. Every nurse that came in after Dominic was born asked if I was "the seven" and when I told them I was and that this was my first baby, they were all so surprised I waited so long to get to the hospital. Honestly, I had no idea when the best time to go in. When I asked the nurse when most people come in, she told me most women come in when they are 3-4 cm dilated. I guess I just had a higher pain tolerance (or I was too fucken stubborn to get my ass to the hospital to push out a baby).

Through all the hardship of labour, I wouldn't change a thing. I felt both the natural pain of labour and giving birth with an epidural. And in the end, I got to meet and hold my little babe.

And if you're wondering how Iz took it - let's just say, he kept his head turned around, held my hand like a pro and felt just as scared as I did through the whole process. The nurse did make a comment and said he was starting to look a little grey near the end of my labour but in all honesty, I'm surprised he didn't look like that the moment I started pushing!

Spa Giftcard. Need I say more?

Instant Pot (here). Having an Instant Pot would make life so much easier. Imagine not having to worry about something taking forever to cook!? Imagine if you're busy all day with your little one and then forget to cook a meal? Just having an Instant Pot would definitely help with that and would make cooking dinner at home that much more easier.

Laptop Stand (here). Sitting in bed is probably going to be something I'm going to be doing with Dominic like 99% of the time. It would make it a lot easier to be able to work on my laptop if I had a laptop stand so I'm not resting my laptop on my stomach or trying to manoeuvre my way around the bed and Dominic to be able to write a post!

Silk Pillow Cases (here). I've had a few ups and downs with my skin and hair over pregnancy, but investing in a pair of silk pillows would definitely help with that. There are so many benefits to having silk pillows - they are so soft on your skin. Silk pillows also reduce damage to your hair because of less friction! And it helps your skin retain moisture. I mean, do I even have to go on!?

Diaper Tote (here) If you're anything like me, then you're gonna want a cute baby tote bag. We already received a cute baby backpack but there are going to be some days where I'm gonna want a fancier bag to either go with my outfit or depending on what type of family outing we'll be going on! And I mean, c'mon, who wouldn't want to have multiple choices of a baby bag to choose from?

Apple Watch (here). It doesn't have to be an Apple Watch per se but a smartwatch would make a great gift. If mom ends up misplacing her phone, at least she'll still have a way to receive her calls and messages while watching the baby! I think it's an awesome tech to have!

Robot Vacuum (here). I'm not saying go out and buy the iRobot i7+ (I mean, if I was a millionaire, I would buy one for every floor in my house) but any robot vacuum would take off 1 item on your list every day! At our house, we have to vacuum at least 2 times a day just because of the dogs and it doesn't bother me one bit to do it, but if it was something I didn't have to worry about, that would be amazing!

Air Purifier (here). We recently bought air purifiers for our home and they are amazing. Having two dogs definitely makes a difference with the air quality of your home but once we set up these Aeramax air purifiers in our house, it has definitely made a huge difference!

Golden Eye Treatment (here). With these growing bags under my eyes, it would be amazing to have an at-home treatment to help with minimizing that dark under eye circles. It also helps smooth out wrinkles and contours the skin!

Laser Hair Removal (here). This would again take off one less thing to worry about at home, I mean, shaving my armpits could save me 5 minutes a day!

Babyletto Mercer 3-in-1 Crib (here). This was one of the few cribs that Iz and I loved. There were a few others that we really liked but they were either non-convertible beds or super expensive, and those were both not ideal for us. I love the idea of the current crib we got is a convertible bed so down the road, we can just change Dominic's bed into a toddler bed and then a full sized bed when he needs it.

Ikea Besta Shelves. We went with the Ikea Besta shelves and side table as we already incorporated that type of shelving in our house. We actually had the changing table as a side table on our main floor but we weren't exactly using it to its full potential, so Israel decided to use it as Dominic's side table which worked out perfectly. And it was just easy to incorporate other similar shelving in Dominic's room.

Lambs & Ivy - Goodnight Giraffe Theme. As soon as I show the mobile for this theme, I fell in love with it. I love that the theme is gender neutral and the color theme already matched our house and the room. It was just perfect for us!

Cloud Pillow (here). As soon as Israel saw a whole bunch of products from A Lovely Little Company, we just fell in love with the pieces. And all their pieces are so cute!

A Little Lovely Company Lambs (here/here). Again, pieces from A Lovely Little Company.

I love the fact that this changing pad can weigh our little Dominic as well as keep track of his feeding, sleep and diapers! Anything to help me keep track of him easier makes my life easier!

Ikea Mosslanda Picture Ledge. We've seen these a lot in room tour videos on YouTube and we loved the idea and incorporated into Dominic's room and I love it. It makes it easy to display his books and pictures!

Ikea Poang Rocking Chair. I had a hard time finding a rocking chair that I loved. I found a lot of them uncomfy, too hard, or I didn't love the style. But when I saw the Ikea Poang chair, I just found it comfy and it matched our room theme!

Ikea Langesund Mirror.
