10 Things I've Learnt Being a Mom (So Far)

"When you are a mother, you are never really alone in your thoughts. A mother always has to think twice, once for herself and once for her child."

One to Five

  1. It's a lot of work. I think I can juggle everything I need in a day and I can barely get through getting in a shower and brushing my teeth. Especially when Iz is at work, it is definitely a struggle!
  2. Sleep when you can. Some days I don't nap when DK naps, and I definitely notice how much my body lacks because of it. Running on a few hours of sleep is not worth it because then nothing else gets done!
  3. Ask for help when you need it. Iz and I are so lucky that we have so many people who are willing to watch DK when we need to run errands or go on date night! Can you believe we've had like 6 date nights in the 2 months with DK?! Everyone in our family is willing to watch DK because everyone is just so obsessed with him!
  4. Don't shelter your baby. I am the shelter-er when it comes to Iz and I. But because Iz isn't like that with DK, I found him growing and learning a lot quicker than I expected. He's close to being able to hold up his own head and he's learning the movements of crawling!
  5. There are some REALLY tough days. DK has some really bad days - where he just cries ALL DAY FOR NO REASON. And I mean, no reason at all! It makes days REALLY hard but we all have our bad days, so I take them as it is and hope tomorrow will be better.

Six to Ten

  1. Baby laughs and smiles are EVERYTHING. I mean, if you didn't know this already, now you do. DK's smiles are so infection that just seeing him smile for a minute makes my whole day better.
  2. Don't forget your hobbies because of your baby. I feel like if I spent every single minute worrying about what DK needs or wants, I would lose myself! I'm so glad I still have The Cassie Paige as an outlet to express myself. It reminds me every day that I'm still me even though DK is a huge part of my life!
  3. Don't forget your partner. Iz is my second half. I would never want him to feel as if DK replaced him because there is no replacing him. DK is loved just as much but DK and Iz both hold a place in my heart.
  4. Don't sweat the small things. Sometimes I feel TERRIBLE when I don't get the laundry or dishes done. But taking care of DK is a full-time job, even if I am at home doing it! Don't sweat it, just get around to it when you can!
  5. CHERISH EVERY MOMENT. You're going to miss these moments when they're older. Just thinking of DK being older and not needing me makes my heart break! So cherish these moments because they are beyond special!

Being DK's mom has been such a blessing but I'm always growing and learning every day with him.
