Microbladed Brows by Kim Ly at Hi-Tech Nails

October 1/17 UPDATE: I take back my review on this salon. After trying multiple times to book my follow up appointment, Kim would say she would message me back or certain days didn't work without giving me any other options. I messaged her multiple times until she ignored my message. I wrote reviews on Facebook and Yelp only to say call them because they don't always check their messages even though my message was left on Read.

Before

Ever since I can remember, my eyebrows have been thin and barely even visible. In photos, I always looked like I didn't have eyebrows and it was never really a big deal until thick and arched eyebrows came back into style. And now, that eyebrows are such a major part of beauty, I was constantly filling them in and spending at least $35 every few months for a good eyebrow pencil.

Well one day, I decided I was sick of it and I didn't want to have to worry about my brows when we fly to the Dominican, especially when we're in the ocean or on a wedding day and my face is starting to melt from the heat.

If anyone has ever looked up the cost of microblading, they can cost anywhere between $300-$600 and there was no way I wanted to spend that much on a service I wasn't even sure was worth it. So I jumped onto Kijiji and boom - found an ad from Kim on there promoting her services! I jumped the gun, especially because her pricing was amazing - $150 for the service!

The Procedure

I was beyond scared to get my brows done. I read some terrible reviews and how some people said it was painful or not worth it and scared myself silly. But I didn't want to worry about my brows all too much when we go on vacation!

When I got to Hi-Tech Nails, Kim made me read and sign a waiver (which scared me even more but makes total sense) and numbed my eyebrows as soon as I laid down. She put on some soothing music and told me it would be about 30 minutes for the cream to work and for her to start her magic.

Once the 30 minutes passed, Kim showed me different colors and once we decided on a color, the rest was history! I was in the salon for a total of 2 hours, which was what I was told by her initially. The procedure was quick and easy and I barely felt any pain. There was a slight stingy feeling, after all, was said and done but it was barely noticeable. Before I left, Kim went over the post-microblading process and sent me home with some cream to apply every night!

After

When I got home, I was a little weirded out by my eyebrows. Once done, the color is a little darker than usual because the color will fade over time. On top of that, they looked super thick because of the vaseline like cream that needed to be applied every night.

About a week now, after the process, my brows have been healing almost perfect. I did however, miss 1 night of applying the cream application to my brows and noticed a part of the color flake off - which was totally my fault. But I couldn't be more happier with Kim's awesome service and pricing. If you're in the YEG area and hoping to score a good deal on microblading, make sure to book an appointment with Kim at Hi-Tech Nails before May 15th as her prices will increase after that!
